Yamanashi, Japan: Fuji Shibazakura Festival

Yamanashi, Japan: Fuji Shibazakura Festival
The Fuji Shibazakura Festival (or pink moss or phlox moss) happens between mid-April to mid-May in Fuji Motosuko Resort.

Travel Date: 15 May 2025

Tip: Seasonal post like this means the place will not always look like the photos below all year round.  Ensure to visit their website (https://www.fujimotosuko-resort.jp/) to know in advance if there are blooming flowers (e.g. Rainbow Flower Festival in September).  Otherwise, refrain from visiting during the post-festival schedule as flowers already withered,  the maintenance period or replanting season to avoid disappointments.

There are some areas where flowers are not vibrant.  Lucky enough, we still get to see blooming pink moss and other varieties as we go deeper in the garden.

Try to come early or later, the place did get crowded by noon time.  There were lots of tourist buses coming to visit the festival.

In the gourmet area, there are food trucks offering local and fusion food.  Also, food inspired by Fuji shapes.

In the middle of the resort are some European inspired buildings as part of the Peter Rabbit theme.  This is for the resort cafe, observation tower, gallery, and souvenir shop.

We bought some of the postcards and sent them from Kawaguchiko station back to our home city.

We also tasted Kikyou Shingen Mochi soft serve ice cream. It's a Yamanashi sweet specialty.

For the famous photography spots like the "small boat sailing on a sea of pink" and "yellow door of happiness", you have to queue for long.

Below is taken from the panorama deck as there are less people when we pass by the area.

Blessed with the good cold, windy weather.  There were clouds, not that gloomy and Fuji is so generous to be showing up during our visit.  For those who need nature bathing, it's a good place to visit specifically during festivals.

How to get there

During the festival they offer a highway express bus from Tokyo, with transfer in Kawaguchiko station.

For those coming from Kawaguchiko station, they have a seasonal ticket counter near Bus Stop #7.
