Nagano, Japan: Places to see in Matsumoto

Sharing below some places you opt to visit on your visit to Matsumoto. 

Nakamachi Street

Nakamachi once sat on the old Zenkoji Kaido, a route that connected Zenkoji Temple and Kyoto.  Within its 400-year history, it flourished as merchant's neighborhood with many wholesale stores (mainly kimono).

Merchants built earthen-walled storehouses, called kura with namako walls to protect their property from fire and water.

Namako is the grid pattern of white mortar on blackwall.  Today, you can enjoy a variety of craft shops, cafe and restaurants.

There is a street map posted in one of the walls to guide visitors on their options on where to go. 

Sioribi    栞日

Location: 3 Chome-7-8 Fukashi, Matsumoto, Nagano 390-0815, Japan

Food: apple cinnamon toast, hot ginger tea

I was not able to roam around the 2F as there are other guests as well.  But since I just came from a bookshore, that's why I'm still overwhelmed by the books.    

I stayed on bar bench located in 1F, watching the traffic while sipping my tea. 

Matsumoto Brewery Tap Room Honmachi    松本ブルワリー タップルーム 本町店

Location: Japan, 〒390-0811 Nagano, Matsumoto, Central, 2 Chome−２０−2 信毎メディアガーデン 3F

Food: I was only able to order side dishes. I was rooting to try some sausages but failed. It is only available after 5pm.

Drinks: I'm not into beer, but when I asked for their recommended sweet drink, they prompted me to try the mulled/hot wine.  So I missed out the local beer.

So the real reason I have visited the place, is because you can see the central alps at the end of the road.  But since its already sunset, I was not able to capture the proper lighting for the alps.  

While sipping my wine, sitting, watching the street below, listening to music and eavesdropping to the next table... 

Everyone of us has their own direction. Some need to stop, some need to wait.

Some go solo, some go in groups. Some are with friends, some are surviving the sunsets.

Along the cross roads, we sometimes need to stop, to wait and learn before we can continue.

Oboshi Matsumoto 

Location: 1 Chome-1-1 Fukashi, Matsumoto, Nagano 390-0815, Japan

Food: Barikote series ramen

The staff is very accommodating and helpful. 

Takoyaki and Tappanyaki dishes タコとハイボール 松本つなぐ横丁

Location: Just in front of Toyoko Inn Matsumoto Station Higashiguchi東横INN松本駅東口

Order: takoyaki and ginger ale

The place can make you smelly. Most are close on Mondays.
