More
than the beach, Bali is a food paradise. Not just good tasty food, but it is affordable
(compared to Manila) with an unexpected ambiance and appearance. Let me share to you our chow experience during
our stay in Bali.
Crewey Fishing Tackle
Location:
Poppies Lane 2 Gang Ronta No. 23 Kuta-Legian
Food: 8 out
of 10
Value:
Affordable (71,000Rp (290Php))
Atmosphere: 7
out of 10
Orders: Mie
Goreng (fried noodles), chicken sate
We saw this restaurant while going to beach walk area. Very simple, no fuss about it, decent and affordable, but the food is very tasty for the hungry.
Cafe Kopi Pot
Location: Jl
Legian, North Kuta
Food: 7 out
of 10
Value:
Affordable (less than 125,000Rp (500Php))
Atmosphere: 8
out of 10
Orders: Nasi
Goreng Istimewa (Indonesia's national dish of fried rise, shrimps, chicken, sate,
egg, 41K), Chicken Fricassee (sliced chicken breast in a white wine butter sauce,
with asparagus, button mushroom and parsley potatoes, 59K)
Covered by
big trees, feels like secluded, but you are actually dining in front of the street. However, a bit smoky, either coming from
someone who is using a cigarette or from mosquito coil.
The antique
restaurant is a bit eerie at night, especially when no one is dining.
They offer Tongseng Kambing (in Filipino, "Kambing" is goat), a delicious spicy lamb stew originating from Java. I was not able to enjoy my food because their utensils stink.
Kafe Batan Waru, Ubud
Location,
Dewi Sita Street, Ubud
Food: 8 out
of 10
Value: Mid-Range (less than 190,000Rp (760Php))
Atmosphere: 8 out of 10
Orders: Nasi
Goreng (Hot wok fried rice with shrimp, chicken and vegetables, 46K), Hot Wings
(American spicy friend chicken wings with sour cream parmesan dip and fresh
Tabasco, 31K), Lime Juice (27K), Coke (18K)
This restaurant is along our road trip from
Tirta Empul to Mengwi, so I have included it in our itinerary. The food tasted good. It has simpler atmosphere in Ubud, the one in
Kuta is more stylish.
But the real
reason that made me decide to dine in this place is because of Eat Pray Love.
Press: Karen Waddell, the
proprietor of four Ubud restaurants (Cinta Grill, Kafe Batan Waru, Siam Sally
and Terazo) and Bali Good Food Catering (www.baligoodfood.com), which fed the
cast and crew of Eat, Pray, Love during
their shoot in Bali.
Eat, Pray, Love was Waddell’s first film
catering experience, and she had a heady task on her hands. “We woke up at 2:30
a.m. to have breakfast ready for 100 people by 5:30; then sometimes for the
night shots, we wrapped craft services at 3 a.m.,” she says. Despite the lack
of prior experience, what made it work for Waddell was the Balinese way of
life.
Nero Bali

Location: Jl.
Legian Klod 384 Kuta - Bali
Food: 9 out
of 10
Value:
Mid-Range (189,000Rp (756Php))
Atmosphere: 9
out of 10
Orders:
Spaghetti King Prawns (80K), Spring Rolls (35K), Soda (18K)
Mediterranean restaurant and cocktail bar in the middle of Legian. Full blast music background but is calming to the mind. Dark lights give privacy to the diners. It may be a small restaurant but the mirrors all over the place make it bigger. In terms of food, as simple as spring rolls, you'll appreciate the softness of the cover. The shrimp is a bit spicy but very tasty.
Oceans 27

Location:
Discovery Shopping Mall Beach Front, Jl. Kartika Plaza, Kuta
80361 Bali
Food: 8 out of 10
Value: Mid-Range (less than 200,000Rp (800Php))
Atmosphere: 9 out of 10
Orders: Carbonara Pasta (70K), Salted & Peppered Squid
(80K), Aqua Glass Bottled Water (20K), Bintang Beer (29K)
Watch sunset in Kuta Beach
and continue your water escapade on this restaurant where you’ll be literally
seating in the water while you’re dining.
Either you’ll have wild music at night or a public movie showing by the
beach.
Potato Head Beach Club
Location:
Jln. Petitenget, Seminyak, Bali 80361 (11.00 am - 2.00 am)
Food: 10 out
of 10
Value:
Expensive (300,000Rp (1200Php))
Atmosphere:
10 out of 10
Orders: Fish
and chips, strawberry cheesecake and strawberry sorbet
It's been a
long drive to reach on this area of Seminyak, not unless you want to walk in
the middle of the sun. Most of the
visitors are coming from private cars and cabs.
You can immediately feel that they implement high security in the
area.
You'll also notice the amazing and gorgeous
architectural design they have which is actually composed of old designed
windows in different colors and sizes.
For
most of the Westerners who would love to stay by the pool side, they must spend
a minimum of 500,000Rp (2000Php). For
the rest of the visitors they can choose anywhere in the restaurant area. I enjoyed the yummy strawberry dessert, that
worth thousands of Rupiah as well.
Ambiance, it’s
the best that I've seen in Bali. Thanks
to Patty for sharing this restaurant.
Other
restaurants I wanted to try were Sardines, Mamasan and Mozaic.
*Not the best restaurant review that you might be looking for, but I tried my best for this entry. I'm not really a food lover, so I appreciate more the atmosphere of where I'm going to. Hope to improve on my future food reviews. Thanks for visiting this page!
