Things to do in Hida-Furukawa
Whenever we visit Japan, I prefer a day to visit the outskirts. It's a good thing to escape from the most visited and famous cities.
Let us share with you some places of interest in visiting Hida-Furukawa. It's a place that inspired some scenes in the 2016 Japanese animated fantasy film Your Name (Kimi no Na wa, written and directed by Makoto Shinkai).
Hida-Furukawa station
You can still find the bear-standee near the ticket counter.
Here's the taxi stand as seen in the film.
If you are collecting stamps, visit the two Tourism centers in the area.
Braiding experience (using the round table)
2-20 Sannomachi, Furukawa-cho, Hida-shi, Gifu
"You should listen to the thread's voice. When you twine it round and round like this, feelings will start flowing between you and the thread. - She's telling you to focus."
If you are interested to try braiding, visit Hida Furukawa Sakura Gift Shop.
It's also one of the shops being promoted from our accommodation. Apart from the bracelets, there are other local products like wooden items and painted candles.
Hida City Library
2-22 Furukawacho Honmachi, Hida, Gifu 509-4232
Remember to respect the rules of visiting a library.
They would allow you to take photos, but ensure to request approval from the lobby first. They will show you the list of rules to follow before giving you an ID showing you are allowed to take photos.
- Do not be noisy.
- Photography is allowed.
- Videos are now allowed.
- Do not include public individuals.
- Taking photos is until 5pm only.
If you'll be looking for English books, they are near shelf #26. I tried looking for a sports magazine, but failed to find one.
Apart from above, there's also the FAB cafe and Hida Takumi Carpentry Museum.
