Takayama Ouan Hotel
Travel Date: 08 December 2024
Location: A bit of a walk from the station. This is more of a quiet place, less shops or restaurants around the area.
4 Chome-313 Hanasatomachi, Takayama, Gifu 506-0026, Japan
There were free drinks and candies at the lobby, but they did not offer it while we were waiting.
Then, they will request you to go to the machine for self-check-in. A female staff member speaks good English. However, she has a gloomy outlook and is not accommodating to guests. (After our stay, I read the same feedback multiple times from other guests about this cold attitude from their staff.)
You need to take-off your shoes (except the lobby). Always wear socks, since the luggage is being dragged inside, thus floors may not be very clean.
Security: Seems to be an older hotel, the room key is not required to go to your room floor. Maybe because there are a lot of floors to check their vending machines.
Room: A bit old, same as other Onsen hotels where shower room, toilet and sink are separated.
The air-conditioner is old, makes constant noise and is warm.
Cons: The sink is not appropriate to wash small clothes because the water keeps on spilling.
There is schedule for the shower inside your room. There was no water at 4:45am.
Onsen: The top-floor private open-air onsen is awesome. We were dipping while watching the snow fall.
Afterwards, we got popsicles.
Check-out: They have a maintenance schedule the following day, so they reminded us to check-out early and not to leave our luggage behind.
Recommendation: If you want a private-open air bath in Takayama visit this hotel. If you are nostalgic and want to try a traditional old facility, visit this.
But if you prefer a more modern touch, you could try to find another one in Agoda.
