2012 Aug: Taguig, Philippines: The Mind Museum

Opened last March, I was able to visit this week the first world class Science museum in the Philippines – and true, it did not fail me.  Located in Bonifacio Global City, The Mind Museum is open at 600php for 3 hours on a set schedule or 750php for an all day pass.

The museum briefing will be discussed by Aedi, the robot.

Then you are allowed to learn on your own what each exhibit conveys - there are five galleries in this two-level building.

The Story of the Universe: Its Beginning and Majesty

Schedule of the short movies:

The Story of the Earth: Its Story Across the Breadth of Time

The Story of Life: The Exuberant Varieties of Life

The Story of the Atom: The Strange World of the Very Small

The Story of Technology: The Showcase of Human Ingenuity
Malampaya Deep Water Gas Project

Aside from the facts and knowledge, I think for adults it brings back the old days of grade school when you start learning about the Universe; the happy high school moments when you collect rocks, dissect creatures, memorize the Table of Elements, etc.  But for kids, it is a big play ground, learning everything in a shot which will end with a sense of ‘information overload’.

We already advised the museum about our comments – there are some exhibits that are not working and some are broken, perhaps because most of their visitors are kids.  Another thing missing is that they don’t have brochures that will guide the guests about the floor map, the category of exhibits, and show/experiment times.

True, it is a world class!  They were successful in making the museum where Science comes alive.  Closing this entry with the line that struck me the most from my favorite display - the first T-REX exhibit in the country.
