Ritsurin Park has been awarded the highest rating of 3 stars in the French travel guide book Michelin Green Guide Japan, meaning it is ``worth the trip.'' (First published in March 2009.) Ref: https://www.my-kagawa.jp/
Himalayan Cedar - largest tree in the garden that was planted in 1899. Approximately 20 meters tall and measures 5.2 meters around the trunk.
Apart from walking in the part, there are other viewing spots in the garden. You can take this boat to roam around the lake. And you can continue hiking on several stairs and viewing deck for the overlooking shots of the garden.
When visiting Japan during sprint time, there maybe other flowers that will look like as we thought of as sakura. Check the internet on what are differences on these flowers and on how to identify them. But some of course has it's name on it's branches.
This one is an Apricot.
There were also plum grove.
Ritsurin Park's garden style is called the ``Ikeizumi Kaiyushiki,'' which flourished in the Edo period, and features ponds and artificial hills spread out over a vast area, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing landscape as they stroll through the park. . It is said that this variety is due to the charm of ``one step at a time,'' where the scenery changes with each step. Ref: https://www.my-kagawa.jp/
There were several cafes at the garden. Some may look expensive for a tea and small snack while looking at the lake.
But I found this homey small store with tables by the lake run by a couple. I bought zenzai - a traditional Japanese dessert soup made with azuki beans. This is a hot sweet red bean soup with white mochi (rice balls).
Along with it, they also gave me a warm green tea.
You got to enjoy your food with a chilling wind and while watching the koi in the lake.
Ensure to drop by the souvenir shop to check locally handmade ceramics, etc. There are also a variety of snacks and sake to choose from. I bought these postcards, draw a small cherry tree at the back and sent to my home town.
