Hokkaido, Japan: Food crawl and cafes in Sapporo

Baristart Coffee

Personal preference:9 out of 10

Coming from Manila, which has Baristart in BGC, it's nice to visit the branch in Sapporo.  Although small compared to the one in BGC, we are here for the coffee.

Thankful they allowed me to recharge my phone while enjoying the playlist they have indoors. 

The counter is mainly just to buy and go out of the place.  But I stayed for a while since it's not that crowded.  I arrived at 5pm an hour prior to closing.

It's a cashless transaction only. I ordered a hot coffee latte with Furano milk and Baristart Blend french roast beans (India Robusta Anaerobic Honey, Guatemala Natural).

Yamaya Hakata Tempura Cocono Susukino Store

Location: Japan, 〒064-0804 Hokkaido, Sapporo, Chuo Ward, Minami 4 Jonishi, 4 Chome−1−1 COCONO SUSUKINO 

Food: 5 kinds of tempura

Personal preference: 9 out of 10

Freshly fried tempura served to you in portions.  It's a bit pricey for the portions I had. Overall, good experience.  The food is tasty, crunchy.

Lamp Lights Book Cafe ランプライトブックスカフェ札幌

Location: Japan, 〒060-0062 Hokkaido, Sapporo, Chuo Ward, Minami 2 Jonishi, 7 Chome−５−1

Food: prosciutto & ceasar salad - 495y, hot drip coffee - 550y 

Personal preference: 9 out of 10

The place is exclusive to their hotel guests until 7am.  By then, the public can visit the cafe.  I don't have a library to visit on this trip, thus I planned to include a book cafe instead.

The open face sandwich is tasty and more than enough for my breakfast.  Atmosphere is nice and lovely with great music.  If I visit again, I prefer to stay longer.

Royce Town

Location: 640-15 Bitoe, Tobetsu, Ishikari District, Hokkaido 061-3775, Japan

Food: pastries and limited hot chocolate

Personal preference: 9 out of 10

There are a lot of pastries to choose from.  They also have soft serve ice cream which I did not try.  But instead, I had their limited offering of hot chocolate.  For those who have a sweet tooth, this is a must visit. 

Food from Convenience Store  

Location: Any

Food: staple chicken and salad

There will always be nights that I may feel tired and no longer want to hunt for another proper restaurant.  At times like this I would just dash to any convenience store along the way to buy chicken, salad.  But this time, I'm adding strawberries to my meal.

Bibai Snow Land

Location: 3 Ku Chashinaicho, Bibai, Hokkaido 079-0261, Japan

Food: seafood hotpot and buffet

Personal preference: 10 out of 10

I loved the seafood hotpot.  It fits perfectly well to the snowy scene outside.

Morihico Coffee

Location: 26 Chome-2-18 Minami 2 Jonishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 064-0802, Japan

Food: seasonal sweet (a sweet white bean soup, soy milk with brown mochi, with roasted rice crackers as an accent), pound cake (matcha flavor), snow white almond (A delicious encounter between almond milk made from California almonds and coffee roasted in Hokkaido.  A perfect blend of gentle sweetness and bittersweetness has resulted in this almost au lait.  It is rich in Vitamin E. )

It's getting popular, and I lined up for this cafe.  They have limited seating, so go there early or you'll be in queuing. They are quite efficient, they welcome guests while still in queue.  Handing out the menu and getting our orders in advance.  Once they invite you inside, the meal will be served in no time.

The white bean soup is so delicious.  The snow white almond is perfect for the heavy snow fall outside during my visit to the cafe.

I like the ambiance, the cozy feel, the old wooden furniture, and warm ambiance.  Commendable friendly staff. I like visiting traditional buildings where the ceiling and the walls speak of the olden days.

T'Cafe

Location: JR Tower Observatory T38

Food: Hokkaido Seafood Doria (scallops and snow crab) 

Personal preference: 9 out of 10

Among all the viewing points around Sapporo, I choose JR Tower due to it's cafe.  At least there's something I can do while roaming the top floor, it's to eat!

As the cup says, "Shall we take a break over a cup of coffee in a scenic location?"

Tokuichi とくいち

Location: Japan, 〒060-0011 Hokkaido, Sapporo, Chuo Ward, Kita 11 Jonishi, 22 Chome−1−26 1F

Food: kumaishi salt

Personal preference: 7 out of 10

Location is a long walk from the Nijuyonken Station.  People queue at this restaurant, saddening to the nearby restaurants, but this gets a bit crowded. Fast service. 

Museum Cafe Polus

Location: Inside Hokkaido University Museum

Food: oolong tea

Personal preference: 8 out of 10

I'm still full when I visit the place, thus, I only got tea. 

There are a lot to try like sandwiches, coffee, and soft serve. 

Tully's Coffee タリーズコーヒー 新千歳空港ハッピーフライト店

Location: Japan, 〒066-0012 Hokkaido, Chitose, Bibi, New Chitose Airport Terminal, 連絡施設3階Food: hot almond praline soy latte, Ballpark hotdog original

Personal preference: 9 out of 10

Almond Praline Soy Latte (limited) - An "all soy" drink made by adding fragrant almond syrup to soy latte and topping it with whipped cream made from soy milk. Made entirely from soy milk, it has a light texture. Enjoy it with the sweet aroma of maple sauce as if it were a dessert. [Reference]

Thanks Sapporo!  Was able to enjoy the yummy food I tried in the city.  In the end. it's better to balance between convenience stores or buffet style restaurants.
