2010 August: Singapore: Amazing Solo Race in 12 Hours
Travel Date: August 15, 2010 To start my solo adventure, I have visited Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Paya Lebar.
From Green Lane, I dropped off at Bugis station. Took Exit B, which is the nearest exit to Kampong Glam. I wanted to see Masjid Sultan (perhaps due to my Brunei trip last April) and Arab Street. The houses and stores are so colourful. They are selling silk, traditional Muslim clothes and postcards.
It was still early in the morning and was not able to get inside Children Little Museum. Most of the stores in Bugis Village were also closed. For those who wanted to take a photo of Manila Street in Singapore – you can find it in Bugis.
I took my late breakfast at Toast Box – Traditional Kaya Toast for 4.20sgd.
Also, bought the Starbucks mug for my collection.
Then, I moved to City Hall for the HMV store. I was looking for a local movie – but unfortunately it was not available there. Another type of City Tour is sponsored by Duck Tours (http://www.ducktours.com.sg/tours_duck.php), price range is 33sgd – 63sgd. It is a bus and boat in one that can travel in both land and water.
From Yellow Lane: Esplanade, I dropped off at Promenade, followed the street signs going to Flyer.
The ticket costs 30sgd and the flight lasts for 30 minutes. I tried to request if I can take a solo flight but the guard told me that it was a sharing capsule. I shared the flight with 6 other non-Asian tourists.
Inside, there is a video that explains the World Record of the Flyer, and a map to guide you on the structures you see on 360 degree angle while at the top.
From Green Lane: Raffles station, I dropped off at Tanjong Pagar. I saw this building online, and I have never seen a building fully painted in red - that pushed me to see this in person. This is Red Dot Traffic and Red Dot Museum in one.
Still on Green Lane, I dropped off at Jurong East station. For those who wanted to see some outlet shops, visit IMM Building. From the station, take the free shuttle bus going to the mall. Remember the local movie I was looking for in City Hall, I finally found it after inquiring in less than 10 shops – The Leap Years. I saw its trailer in channelnewsasia while I was in Bangkok 2 years ago. You can see it too in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSWsk4aS6nY.
After sending the postcards in Sing Post, I immediately went to Orchard Road.
My sister’s order is to buy some prawn rolls and barbequed pork at Bee Chiang. From where I am located, the closest store is either in Takashimaya or Paragon. After I bought the goodies at the basement of Takashimaya, I went to Ion Mall.
As recommended by my friend, I tried Four Fingers. Different kick and flavour for a chicken – uniquely Singapore.
Last station I’ve been to before going home is Clarke Quay – I’m now meeting my friends to have dinner and a short walk in the area.
What a wonderful solo adventure – 12 hours, visited 4 lanes, been to 11 train stations.

2010 April: Kota Kinabalu: City Tour
Travel Date: April 20, 2010 Tuesday
Destination: Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia
The next day, I booked for a City Tour at the travel agency at the Lobby of Cititel Express. You can contact them prior to your arrival at 1tourandadventure@gmail.com. I do recommend their tour but not the airport transfer.
The tour guide arrived at 8am at the Hotel Lobby. I really thought that I’ll be joining a group tour, but I was wrong. I was like in a huge van (like can accommodate 15 passengers), where I’m the only tourist to be guided for the half-day! However, I feel safe during the whole trip and thanks to HK Lee who has been very accommodating and act as a driver, tour guide, and photographer all in one.
Our first stop is the Atkinson Clock. It is the oldest standing structure in the whole of Sabah that survived the destruction of Jesselton town during World War II.

The Signal Hill is the highest point in the city. You can see the main road, building strip, and the water front from this location.
Next stop is the Floating Mosque also known as City Mosque at Likas Bay (with Blue Dome). The floating Mosque opens every day for Muslim prayer. You are not allowed to go in unless you are Muslim and do your prayer.
Then, since we arrived ahead of time, we were able to pass this long stretch of walkway going to the sea. Then at 9:30am we entered UMS Marine Aquarium Museum. I’m not happy with their procedure of having a separate entrance for the camera. Like you are non-Malaysian, you will pay 10RM for the entrance and you will need to pay a separate 10RM for every camera you have. It is a museum of the bones and shells of the species they found in the Sabah waters. They do have few aquariums inside. You can skip this if you have been to Sentosa Underwater Aquarium or Manila Oceanarium.

Next, we went to Yayasan Sabah also known as Menara Tun Mustpha or the Sabah Foundation Building. It is a circular tower with 30 floors. It houses auditoriums, theaters, offices and a revolving restaurant. We were able to visit the restaurant but it is still closed during that time. It is very elegant, nice paintings, soft sofas and chairs, and of course nice view to watch the KK city. You can even see the peak of Mount Kinabalu.

We had a quick stop in Filipino Market. They have different dried seafood and seaweeds, also offers traditional bags, clothes and textiles. This place is also the featured in Amazing Race Asia Season 4 Episode 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOPuqV6jHMc).
We ended the trip by returning to the Hotel. I had a quick lunch, then, check-out at the hotel. Lock and left my luggage at their Safe Room and go the airport for my flight going to Brunei.

2006 July: Kuala Lumpur: Day 2: KL Invasion
Travel Date: July 20-21, 2006
Destination: Kuala Lumpur
Second and last day in KL, after a long discussion we finally decided to check out and bring our big bags while we stroll around the city. We tried to wake up early so that we can still go up the Twin Tower Bridge. There are no entrance fees, but you need to be in the first 500 guests visiting the bridge. Otherwise, you’ll not allowed to enter the bridge.

The queue is too long, but there are games and intelligent maze on the lobby that will surely entertain you while waiting.

KLCC Mall and KLCC Park are just also near the area.

Next target is to have more of shopping experience. We checked out Berjaya Times Square (also included in Amazing Race Asia Season 1), malls along Bintang Walk, do food trip and return to KLCC Mall.
It’s finally time to say our farewell to Kuala Lumpur, we took a cab going to back Puduraya Bus Terminal. After 6 hours travel, around 3 in the morning we reached again Singapore!
Thanks a lot to my sister and her friends who are with me for this wonderful travel experience in Kuala Lumpur, Malayasia.
