2019: South Korea: Seoul: High Street Guest House

High Street Guest House [하이 스트리트 게스트하우스]
567-19 Yeonnam-dong (81-7 World cup buk-ro 6-gil), Hongdae, Seoul, South Korea
[서울 마포구 연남동 567-19, 홍대, 서울, 대한민국]

Price:  Affordable but you get what you pay for.

Location:  A bit of a walk from/to Hongik station.  You have the option to take the Yanghwa-ro 21-gil to reach Entrance-3 or pass through the maze of Donggyo-ro to reach Entrance-2.  Both entrance/exit gates have escalators.

Along the way, you’ll pass by small grocery shops, cafes and restaurants.

There are several luggage storage cabinets on the station and shops near Exit-3.  Foreign Exchange counter can also be found in Yanghwa-ro.

Check-in:  They normally replies within 1-2 hours on email.  Their concierge is open from 10a-11p only.  They shared to us the self-check-in procedures when we asked instead of them reaching out to us.  They mentioned the floor, room # and passcode via email – and it was a mess!  The room they gave us is already occupied and with this mistake, then we already knew the passcode for other room.

We paid our booking on 3F and their reception area is a mess - a lot of towels and luggage, occupied seats and tables by other things.  There is no room for you to seat nor to place your bag just to get your wallet.  They will not give you receipt unless you request for it.

Room:  We were assigned on first floor, the room is too small to accommodate our luggage and it was hard for us to move inside the room.
The cold weather outside can pass through the windows.
The bed lamp and power socket were defective on one of the beds.
You can definitely hear the noise of the neighborhood when you are inside the room.
There is no television on room or common living room.

Toilet:
There is no divider between the toilet and shower area.
It is not rain shower.
There is no lock and it is not secured especially if you have opposite gender mates on the common area.

Common Area:
Utensils in common area are dirty.
Not sure if plates are microwavable.
Counter top at the common area of 101 should be replaced. Appears to be old and dirty. A small sink would be more useful.

Verdict:  Thank you for accommodating us during this trip, but will definitely find another accommodation when I have longer time preparation on my next trip to Seoul.

Dates Stayed: December 25-31, 2019
