Visited Kuramadera Temple, hiked and Kifune Shrine in Kibune town
A lot of thoughts have been considered while planning for this area.
- This trip will be simple if we focus on one place only.
- It can also be safer if we choose to go back at the fork to reach the other place.
- Restaurants in the area open at 11am which is a bit late for breakfast.
- Both places can be crowded if we go there late in the morning.
So here's what we did. We took the early bus going to Gion-Shijo. We had our breakfast at any cafe open at the station, which is Doutor that morning.
We got lost and took the wrong train, and finally found our way to Demachiyanagi Station.
From there, we took the train heading to Kurama station.
We were about to take the long stairs, when I saw the cable car going to the top. Luckily we took it as we kept the energy and decided to choose the deep forest trail heading to Kibune town for Kifune-jinja Shrine.
It has been drizzling in the morning, good that it did not turn into heavy rain. It was then a cold, cloudy hike that morning.
There are fewer directions and arrows along the way, so having Google Maps at hand is good. There are mountain trails and few hikers along with you and some are coming from the other side, which brings us courage to continue on our journey. Going back is no longer an option because we will just take the same deep forest we've been.
This is the central area where they say that you'll receive cosmic energy.
We did not go inside, but we passed by this building and continue to the trail going to Kibune town.
Honestly, there were areas where I get scared, when I cannot see the people in front of us. But it gives us the courage to continue when we hear bells from other hikers and when there are others who passes by.
This root path (Kinone michi, 木の根道) may look scary in the picture, but one doesn't really have to pass through this. But I'm just sharing this to set expectations of those who wish to hike.
Seeing the red bridge at the end of the trail gave us a sign of relief because we finally reached Kibune town proper. If someone would asked if I'll do it again - definitely yes! It was a great hike, getting close to nature, getting scared and finally feeling happy when we completed the hike.
We rewarded ourselves with snacks from Sagenta.
- Kyoto-style curry nikuman - Japanese pork buns
- nikuman + mont blanc - spiraling vermicelli of yellow chestnut puree, and topped with a yellow preserved chestnut
- matcha zenzai - soft and chewy mochi rice cakes, sweet red bean paste, and umami green tea powder
Then we visited Kifune-jinja Shrine.
Then we went roaming in Kibune town.
You can take a bus going to Kibuneguchi station.
Just to share why we are worried in the deep forest is because of the possibility of the bears appearing. To add context to that you may want to read it on some news articles on how the frequency of bear's appearance after the lockdown era.
This autumn leaves were taken from Kibuneguchi station.
