South Korea: Seoul: Tea House White Birch Story

Place to have your tea break. Enjoyed the hot Korean Herb Ssanghwa Tea (6000KRW = 240PHP)

It was something and unique on its presentation and has a bitter taste.

What is Ssanghwa Tea, Ssanghwacha (Ssanghwatang)?
Ssanghwacha is a medicinal tea made from a variety of herbs, including Japanese Peony, Rehmanniae radix, Angelica gigas, Cnidium officinale, cinnamon and Glycyrrhiza uralensis. It tastes better than it reads — slightly bitter, but it warms the soul and is perfect if you’re suffering from a cold.

Ssanghwacha or ssanghwatang is deep brown in color with a slightly bitter taste. The word ssang refers to energy and the concept of yin and yang, while hwa means harmony.

The name of this tea is derived from an ancient prescription used to supplement energy and bring the body into a more balanced state of equilibrium. This kind of tea is said to cure fatigue, physical weakness, and cold sweats, making it a drink that it often consumed by Koreans when they feel under the weather.

It is very good for the individual who needs refreshment and energy, who wants to enhance immune system, who often take liquor (hepatotonic).  [Reference]
