Yufu, Oita, Japan: WEST in

West in B
Kawakami 3077-1 , Yufu, Yufu, Japan, 879-5102
Travel Date: 21-22 April 2023

Location: 350 meters away from Yufu bus station.  From Google, it was a 4 mins walk.  Upon arrival, I got confused on our way, so it took around 10 mins for us to reach the place.

Check-in: Uncle can speak basic English.  We arrived before 5pm, but he can accommodate check-in until early evening (est. 8pm)

Very accommodating in carrying our luggage going to 2F, no elevators.  Be careful as the stairs are too steep.  Be careful to hold your keys and not make it fall on the ground.

Room type: 2 single beds

Although I booked this from agoda.com, this is like a homestay type.  The room is very spacious at 33 sq m.  It is very clean, minimalist and gives a charming feel.

Separate doors for toilet and changing area and bathroom.

Very good quality of beddings/futon set.

Complete kitchen facility, provided with non-microwaveable plates, utensils, dishwash soap, microwave, ref, cooking ware.  Drinking/welcome water not included.  There are convenience stores nearby.

No available English channel on the tv.

The glass-window near the bed has no cover at the lower window, so be careful of your activities.

The bedside or headboard is near the street that gets busy at night, this part is not sound proof.  Expect to be disturbed in your sleep.

Security: Ensure to put the lights-on when coming back late at night.  There is a double-key lock, do not mis-match, otherwise you'll freeze outside, it will take time to get-in to your room.

Service: Providing wifi/internet.

There is an onsen room, but we did not opt to use it.  There is also a luggage locker, but since it is not open 24hrs, we choose to use the coin-locker in the train station.

The available hairdryer acted as my iron, which saved my wrinkled top shirt.

Food: Breakfast is not included.  Prepare basic food that you can buy from convenience stores nearby.  Then head to the main street and find your breakfast in your preferred cafe or restaurants.  Remember most of the restaurants open at 11am, the same time that the day tours will flock the area.

Feedback: Uncle, the owner, is very nice and accommodating.  Upon check-out, he is also willing to drive us to the train station.

Recommendation:  When it comes to Yufuin, ensure to plan ahead.  Accommodations get easily sold out due to the heavy volume of Korean visitors.  Book early, you may find other more affordable accommodation such as hotels, ryokan or with private or open-air onsen or offers breakfast.
