Matsumoto Azalea Park

This is another off-the beaten-path garden in Japan that is worth a taxi ride. It might be another challenging journey, as there is an infrequent commuter bus going directly to Matsumoto Azalea Park.

The garden is open only in spring (for azalea, moss phlox), then in autumn (for cosmos).

Prepare your feet as you stroll up and down the hill and be ready to capture those moments in front of your camera.

You may choose to bring some snacks or you can try the small snack bars at the entrance offering Japanese cake (we tried cheese and red bean), and sweetened camote fries.  Remember that there are no shops inside the garden.  There are seating areas, but only a few are under the shades.

The place is huge and it was full of azalea (a variety of pink to white flowers), moss phlox (pink moss or shibazakura) and nemophila (round-shaped flower with a sky-blue color).

With limited bus or public transportation, we took a taxi from Omura Station going to Matsumoto Azalea Park.  It will take you 2400-2600 yen for an estimated 15-mins ride on 8.1 km distance.

Also, it may take a long wait to find a cab going back to the train station. But don't fret as you can download an app for a ride. Or use Google translate and request the ticket counter to help you hail or call a taxi ride back to the station.
