Norden Ruder Hostel Taichung

Travel Date: 22-26 July 2023
Location: Coming from Taoyuan airport by bus, Ubus 1623 route's stop is in Minzu Rd., just across and walking distance to the hotel.
Check-in: Have patience in your check-in. In most cases, accommodation in Taiwan follows the 3pm check-in. They would suggest that you come back during that time or if you stay to wait for your room, they will not approach you back even when the room is already available.
They will provide you coupons (100 ntd per night) which you can use at their partner cafe/restaurants. Since I got confused to locate those places, I have already planned my preferred cafes, either I go out early or wake-up too late - thus, I did not use any of those coupons.
Check-out: But, upon checkout then I knew that it can also be used to buy some of their products like tea (100 ntd) and tote bags (120 ntd). Lucky me, I got free returning gifts.
Room type: Economy room - The economy room may be small, but remember that there are many seating areas on the floor you'll be assigned.
No cabinet, but they provide hangers. No table, but there is a small wooden bench.
I like the location of my room, it's near the foyer and easily accessible to dry my washed clothes.
Common spaces: Minimalist and woody theme. I do appreciate a lot of common spaces, you can still feel serenity and find your solo space.
Food: Visit their pantry as they offer free snacks and fresh fruits. Drinking water dispenser is also available on each floor.
Roof deck: On a Sunday evening, I stayed at a roof deck for myself. Initially I'm just curious about the photos posted in Agoda. But ended up staying there for more than an hour alone. Was able to take photos of the place. More than the photoshoot, the experience is getting closer to nature.
Logs, wooden planks, and artificial grass are available seating areas. There were also a lot of ferns around and crawling vines on the cacti for the greens. They have few flora like santan and azalea that passed the blooming season during my visit.
It may not be a starry night, but Edison's incandescent light bulbs made that night so bright. With all the English music in the background and city sounds of buses and cars on the road, rhythmic noise of the wheels as the trains pass by - it was an amusing chill evening.
Upon return on Tuesday evening, there is even a wedding photoshoot that happened.
The music stops after 10pm, so plan on going there earlier in the night.
Reminders on roof deck:
- Open hours 15:00 - 07:00
- Please lower your voice after 22:30
- No running, no climbing
- Please don't litter and sort out the recycle thoroughly
- Please don't wear hostel slippers to rooftop
- No smoking on the roof
Recommendation: If I'll be going back to Taichung, I'd love to stay back in this hostel.
