Takaoka, Toyama
We have other plans to extend this trip to the nearby prefecture, but it keeps on raining. We wanted to visit a more quiet and traditional area, so we decided to just take a stroll to an artisanal city, Takaoka, just near Toyama city.
Sharing with you below our four appreciations of Takaoka
Give respect to Takaoka Great Buddha
Just a 10-minute walk from Takaoka station, you can immediately notice the towering head of the Buddha. Like the other Buddhist temple we have visited, there is a hall under the statue where you can go around.
It was a peaceful retreat in a small courtyard. The surrounding neighborhood was quiet and calm as well.
Roam around Yamachosuji Historical Preservation District
We did not go into details of the history of the main buildings, but by just walking along the streets and back alleys, you'll be drawn by the serene beauty, traditional facades and preserved culture.
Surely you can find interesting shops or cafes.
Drop-by a local cafe
What is "Chaya"? (literally "teahouse") is a traditional Japanese establishment, often historic, where patrons gather for tea, light snacks.
On this trip, I googled for a chaya nearby. We had our afternoon snacks from Yamacho Chaya. Zenzai is not available during our visit. We ordered cheese cake set, coconut sweets and coffee.
Have fun in Doraemon Walking Road
Have photos with Shizuka, Takeshi, Suneo, Nobita and Doraemon. And apart from the statues nearby the station, we were also able to see the Doraemon-inspired tram running on the streets of Takaoka.
