Japan: Takayama and Toyama - 9 days Itinerary and Expenses

Been planning this route for almost 2 years, but we keep on getting flights with dates where most of the locations were closed due to winter season or facilities were under maintenance.

Upon arrival in Nagoya, I did not pre-book (Willer) the bus to Takayama since I'm not sure if there will be delays on the flight from Manila. Luckily, we only had a short waiting time for the next bus departure.

This is our second time in Takayama as a base.  We visited Kamikochi (1,500m), then Tatamidaira as the highest bus stop, and hiked Daikoku (2,772m).  Rested for a night at Hirayu no Mori, enjoyed a kaiseki, experienced another private open-air onsen bath, and tried a traditional "Finnish" style sauna with a freezing pool outside.

I did not pay attention to my sister's reminder, but there is Autumn Takayama Festival or Hachiman Matsuri as an annual festival for Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine to celebrate a good harvest.  We were entertained by several parades and savored the snacks in the street market. This is also the reason that the hotel prices skyrocketed compared to our previous stay during winter. 

Then, we moved to Toyama as the base station for the next three nights.  It was difficult to buy the tickets for Murodo (2,450m), but I was able to manage.  Most of our stay in Toyama is either cloudy or raining.  Highlight of our stay was that we attended the Oktoberfest celebration in Toyama station.

In the end, from Toyama we took a 3h47m bus ride back to Nagoya station.  Rested for a night.  Visited Komeda Coffee for our breakfast before heading to the airport.
