The fun continues at the Philippine Travel Mart in SMX Convention Center.  Visit the place until September 4 8pm to get the best deals from major airlines, travel tours and hotels. 

2016 July: South Korea: Suncheon Open Film Set

This open film set is located in Jorye-dong, Suncheon. It consists of three villages each representing a different era from the 1950s to the 1970s. It has approximately 200 houses and is the largest film set in Korea. The realistic sets bring about memories of people’s youth, while younger visitors can learn about Korea’s history. [Reference]

2016 July: South Korea: Busan: Oryukdo Skywalk

Oryukdo Skywalk was constructed at the Seungdumal area (Sept 2012), a 35-meter-high coastal cliff, which is regarded as the dividing point between the East Sea and the South Sea, and started operating on October 2013, with the theme of "Walking over the sky.” [Reference]

This is a good spot to see nearby islands on a sunny day.

2016 July: South Korea: Yeosu

This day was planned to be an outskirt from Suncheon.  Instead of moving for another different accommodation for an overnight stay, I have decided to simply have a day trip to Yeosu.

2016 July: South Korea: Suncheon: Ppurigipeunnamu Museum

Ppurigipeunnamu Museum (순천시립 뿌리깊은나무 박물관)

Founded by Suncheon City, Ppurigipeunnamu Museum displays the collections of Han Chang-gi, the founder of two renowned magazines in Korea. The collections range from the relics of the Bronze Age to those of modern times. Through the museum, visitors can catch a glimpse of the lifestyle and culture of Korea’s ancestors. [Reference]

I have started the day by visiting Suncheon Bay Nation Garden West side. Roam around the flora and fauna.

2016 July: South Korea: 6 places to see while in Suncheon

Among the provinces or KTX station, I stayed here the most (in my 2 weeks visit).  Being a part of Jeolla Province which I saw as beautiful place from the variety shows, so I did decide to visit.  However, from the local I've met, she was asking why Suncheon, it is not famous.  So I wonder, how come it became famous to me?

Drama Film Location

If you are adddicted to series or films, you can stay at this place for more than 3 hours.  Capturing those photos, being enticed how it is to live at 60's 70's 80's in Korea. [read]

Suncheon Bay
Visit National Garden for the flora tour.  Then take a sky cube to head to the wet lands. [read]

Enjoy the themed cafes and spend time to be one with arts - painting, drawing, etc. [read]

2016 July: South Korea: Daejeon: Songnisan: Beopjusa Temple Stay

Among all the places listed in the Temple Stay in the southern part of Korean peninsula, it was Beopjusa Temple that fit my schedule for an English guided program.  (If you are planning to do this activity, try to check first the easier option in Busan and which is known for being on the seaside and having English guide, it is Beomeosa Temple.)

2016 July: South Korea: Daejeon: Currency Museum

Going to this place is just a side trip in preparation for my temple stay.

The Currency Museum of Korea is the first museum in Korea to be dedicated solely to modern and ancient currencies. The museum (est. 1988) is operated by the Mint Corporation of Korea as part of its non-profit public services and is open to visitors free of charge with a view of increasing public knowledge of the nation’s currency. The museum features a total of 120,000 pieces including: coins currently in use both in Korea and overseas; coins from modern times (from the Late Joseon Dynasty until today); 80 types of commemorative coins; 88 types of ‘special money’; postage stamps, and other materials. 2016 July: South Korea: 4 Stops while in Daejeon

4 Stops while in Daejeon

It was just a short 6 hrs stay on the city, so was able to visit few places only.  I headed here in preparation for my temple stay in Songni-san.

Hanbat Arboretum

The Hanbat Arboretum, linked with the Government Complex-Daejeon and Science Park, is the largest manmade urban arboretum. This venue serves multiple purposes: to act as a reservoir of genetically diverse foliage, an eco learning center for students, and a recreational area where people can relax and pass the time in the peaceful embrace of nature. South Korea: Daegu: Keimyung University Daemyeong Campus

Before heading to Daegu for 3 days stay, I was not aware about this school.  I just learned about the campus from one of the flyers in the Tourism Office of Daegu.  I thought I was over and done with Love Rain after visiting Four Season's House and Jade Garden.  But then again, apart from C'est La Vie, there's Keimyung University Daemyeong campus in Daegu.

2016 July: South Korea: Daegu: Dodong-Seowon Confucian Academy, Biseul Mountain

Have some rest from the bustling transfers across the trains and buses and join an English theme tour by Daegu City Tours.  Tours available from the flyers are not confirmed unless they receive enough participants request for that day.  In my case, the Yangnyeongsi tourism office was very helpful in this one, they were able to connect me to the tour office and get my contact details for them to confirm if te tour will pursue the next day.  In the afternoon, I was able to received a call and they confirmed Biseul over Pangolsan, which I believe is also due to weather forecast. 

So to continue, there were 2 pick-up points from Daegu, they will confirm which one is better for you to go.  You gotta pay 5000krw to the guide upon boarding.  We have changed out itinerary a bit as agreed to all the passengers, so we skipped Daegu National Science Museum.  Instead bought our packed lunch at the Express Stop, drop by Dodong-Seowon Confucian Academy, then took the electric car to head to the top of Biseul Mountain or Biseulsan (which is normally excluded in a regular themed tours).  The driver said that taking the electric car will cost too much time and we will not make it, thus we have decided to skip the science museum.

2016 July: South Korea: Things to do in Daegu

Daegu is one of the six metropolitan (first level) cities of South Korea, located in North Gyeongsang Province.  It has 2 subway lanes,1 monorail and multiple bus routes to access the city.

Day 1

• Enjoy the multitude of cafes to choose from  in Dong Daegu KTX
• Visit the restaurants in Jungangno (e.g. C'est La Vie, Flavors of Daegu)
• Walk around Banwoldang to Daegu
• Visit the churches and appreciate the architecture
• Experience Love Rain's 1970's student life in Daemyeong-dong campus Keimyung University (from Namsan station, monorail)   

2016 July: South Korea: Gyeongju: Seokguram Grotto, Silla Arts and Science Museum

Seokguram, located on Tohamsan Mountain, is accessible by bus from Bulguksa Temple.  I've seen this sculpture initially from watching Arirang.
